Well I came out to Des Moines with one goal in mind and that was to go out and win the Championship.
I did just that, to the tune of 12.93 seconds (1.7w). It's a new personal best for me and moved me a few spots higher on the all time performance list. I am very happy about the performance and if you look at the time in a vacuum it's a hell of an effort.
I'm more happy with the process than anything else. Although I ran 13.25 (-0.1w) in the semis, was probably THE worst race I had run in a very long time. Once again the adjustments that me and Brooks made in between the semi and final along with the cussing out I got for running the prelim yesterday with poor technique was classic athlete/coach adjustment.
He was noticing problems with my lead leg mechanics, so we just focused on doing nothing but work on 36'' hurdles really in between the semi and final. I think my lead leg mechanics is something that is a strong point for me, so I can't afford to be losing that aspect of my race.
I feel it definitely got fixed for the final race. After watching the race, I was pretty satisfied with what I saw. One thing that was not good was the fact that I was hitting the first hurdle in both races today. I don't know why that kept happening, but you better believe we will get it straight for the future races.
I was hoping to be the Visa champion too, Bershawn Jackson ran 47.32 in the 400 hurdles so I had to run 12.97 or better to overtake him. Of course I ran 12.93, which everybody thought was enough, but I guess I had too much tailwind and they took points away, therefore I lost it by one point. It's ok, I'm just going to go to the USA Track and Field offices and get me one of them good ole reimbursement checks, probably call Doug Logan in the process and see if he can't put a little funds in the pot too.
So I came to the Championships and took care of business. Now I will travel to Portland tomorrow in preparations for the Prefontaine Classic out in Eugene, Oregon this upcoming Saturday.
I found the video of the final race on Universal Sports website and the NBC telecast was great, they had my mom on it and she was super crunk! I put the link at the bottom of the page.

Hello Mr 12.93! Congrats on your championship & PB! You get 12.93 OOM-PA-PA & Hoopty Doo chants from me & Coach E from our PB chants! This is a very special occasion so I had to return to the good old days of the comment/humorous house that EJHEAT built on your DO blog! I don't type like I used to due to my dystonia condition, but for this national championship, King David Oliver gets my dystonic fingers to type & for everybody that misses my humor on here, well, I'll try to give you all a laugh or 2 now I hope!!!!
Me & Coach E rolled out your brand spankin' new King size championship EJHEAT rollaway bed with flashing neon lights reading 12.93 on the DO scale & a picture of you with half your body on & off the bed with your massive shoulders & legs & King David yelling, "I am the Champion! Can you hear me now?" Everyone from 1 side of the world to the other side of the world can hear you now! You always like to be #1 & 1st at everything you DO, so of course on that championship Sunday yo had to hit the 1st hurdle twice! Now stop DO crashing into that 1st hurdle & just maybe a WR will be possible this season! Oh yeah, you got your EJHEAT American Idol serenaded version from me with 1 of my favorite songs of all time, "We are the Champions!" A song made by Queen with a championship tribute to the King! You heard me now! The new & improved DO Smacker out of the box became the Des Moines Smacker out of the box on this weekend! Coach E was so excited that he did 12.93 cartwheels over the hurdles with his blue baton & of course in his championship fast track diaper & we both celebrated with my dystonic dance celebration with OOM-PA-PA hip swivel twist & shout! Coach E truely was dirty diaper dancing with his BIG enzyte Bob smile that just keeps going & going like the energizer bunny!
Your mom was so crunk & awesome to listen to & watch on NBC! The split screen of you 2 was fantastic! I hope I can meet her someday! Such a special moment that I will never forget watching live on my TV & will watch this video over 12.93 million times! You don't need those 25,000 chips from Visa because instead me & Coach E got 25,000 different EJHEAT rollaway beds that will fit Mr Essence,Mr 303, I mean 12.93 Oliver, whatever, that is full of eye candy & equipped with 25,000 blue batons & Coach E fast track diapers!
