Before I get to my performance, I would be
remissed if I didn't mention the loss of two of the best 110 hurdlers in the history of the event, forced out by injury in the first round. Once again, it is unfortunate how freak injuries turn what seem like
invincible athletes, in to mere mortals. Terrence and
Liu were both dealt that bad hand and never got a chance to fulfill their Olympic dream. It is a very hard pill to swallow for me because I
believe that in order to be the best, you have to beat the best, heads up, and we will not get to see a such
matchup here.
I went out and got a very good
warmup going. I felt fresh and everything was working like I wanted it to. I went out and ran a clean race and won my heat in a time of 13.30, which was good enough for the top performance of the day. My main focus was to react better to the gun, which I did, I reacted in a time of .167, which is better than the .22x I'm usually getting. I stayed very relaxed throughout the race and I didn't expend that much energy. Fortunately enough for me, I avoided any injury or mishaps. All in all, I had a performance that I felt was
similar to the one I had in the opening round at the trials.
The stadium was jam packed! It was very hot on the track as well, it felt like a 20 degree increase in temperature from the
warmup track to the stadium. I dripped more sweat out there than I did warming up.
My quarterfinal heat goes off tomorrow night at 9:09pm China time. I am in the fourth and final heat of the day, in lane five. Heat sheets are
HERE.
My focus tomorrow will be to react better to the gun and be more quick than I was today. I really just need to do whatever it takes to survive and advance, that's the name of the game. I came to run 40 great hurdles, now I have 30 left.

Nice race David, I was sure to watch out for you, after getting up to see my Jamaicans try to qualify. Was disappointed with the injury hit ones too. But I think I may be committing the unpatriotic sin of supporting you now...even against my Jamaican duo and Cuban neighbour. Best of luck and hope to see u on the podium.
Hold it down man. Keep doing your thing and bring home that Gold.

Good morning,
It is definetly a mishap about Liu and Terrance. I pray God gives them strength and that they remain encouraged. You are definetly in my prayers also. Unfortunately I keep missing your heats. But I am doing my best to catch the next one. Keep up the good work though and remember you have several prayers behind you.
David,
I watched you here in Beijing on TV. It's sad that both Terrence and Liu were injured during their heats. I was really looking forward to the chance of all 3 of you race in the finals. I'll be in the stands that night screaming my head off for you. Good luck and we're proud of you.
Michael from LA

I am looking forward to your heat tomorrow. Good Luck. I can't wait to see you on the podium. I love your blog it is very interesting. It gives a personal touch from Beijing that the news reports just don't show. Unfortunately I am stuck in the house because of tropical storm Fay but I will most defiantly check your blog to see how everything is in Beijing. Take care God Bless!
Job well done!! I was actually watching the 110 hurdles in support of my line sister's brother who is running for Nigeria and saw your heat. I was impressed not only by your execution, but also by your poise and humbleness during your post interview and decided to read up on you and came across your blog. Good luck out there and I hope you return with your mission accomplished!

Hi David,
I just wanted to pen a quick note and say how very proud I am of your dedication and commitment. A group of East teachers watched your first qualifying round this morning. You should have heard the enthusiastic shouts and cheers as we urged you on. Maybe, you felt the flutter of Angel wings as we hurdled beside you in spirit.
We all wish you the very best.
Ms. Rhone
Nice body... ;-)

That's wonderful that you had such a great race. Good luck with your next one!
I am wishing you much success and will definitely be pulling for ya. BTW, coming from a Bowie State Alum you are representing Howard University very well!!!
Much Love!!!
That's insane, I don't know how you do it. I would freak out going out in front of that many people just to stand there, much less jump over a bunch of hurdles.

Excellent race!!
I was screaming like I was there, did you hear me?? LOL. Congrats on your win, looking forward to the finals!!
*leslie*
Best wishes
David, UPSers in Asia will be cheering you on - go get the GOLD!
China's Liu Xiang, the injured out of the race, the Chinese people are very sad, and the U.S. Telameier also recede in the competition this time ,I Think that this year, the Beijing Olympic 110-meter hurdles champion seemed to have lost their suspense early, that Cuba's man should be the champion Last!
Blessing !
Players can look forward to each play their best level! Training really is not easy
David, we do support you and appreciate your work. Never let anyone hold you down, just try to do your best!
By the way, if I may say so, you look really good!
Greetings,
Mina Jade

I watched one of your heats while at work yesterday...I mean, I was walking through our lounge and it happened to be on the tele. I said to the few who were taking a lunch break, "I KNOW him! I mean, I know who he is!"
I am the spouse of someone who works with your mom, and I just wanted you to know that EVERYONE who knows her is cheering you on. And now everyone at my work is also! We are so very proud of you here on the sunny side of the Rockies!
I was in track and field in my high school days also--at about the same time as Brenda--and I know how much work and training is involved to be able to get where you are today.

I saw your Quarterfinals & boy were you awesome. I use to run hurdles long ago when I was in high school. I just didn't have the courage to do so when I went to college. You said some wonderful words about Terrance & Liu. I pray that God continues to humble you, give you strength & endurance in the rest of your races in Beijing. All the times I come to Orlando for my job......where in the world do you be so we could at least say HEY to one another...
Seems I'm not the only Jamaican who's also rooting for you. You look like you were meant for this race. I hope it all happens for you.

Hi David,
Just watched your race. Congrats on making it to the finals. I know you weren't happy with your race but like you said you have the "Q" next to your name so it's all good.
Good Luck!
P.S. I know you were probably looking at the scoreboard but could you please look into the camera next time you do your interview so we can see that handsome face of yours. Thanks :)
Wow David! We can't wait to see you on the medal stand. East Angels are flying high!
Again, I am so proud. Especially at how gracious you are. Your interviews are phenomenal.
Ms. Rhone
Congrats, you ran a good race. I had you and my island neighbor (cuba) going neck and neck to the finishing line. But regardless, i see you ran your heart out. good job.
spaga21@aol
Hey David,
I'm the old lady that you met at Penn Relays, and you said I really
wasn't old. You were kind enough to fix my camera and take a picture with me. On Saturday when
they had the finals as you walked on to the field I yelled "Hello" and your turn around to see who it was with a warm smile on your face. When you saw it was me you
smiled and said "Hello" back. Well the high school kid that I was with got such a kick out of that, and they tessed me all the way home. After Penns I was your
number one fan. I never met such
a handsome young man who was so nice and humble. Please stay that
way. It's by GOD is blessing you
so much, and you have more blessing to come. My kids think I have lost my mind staying up all
unGODLY hours of the night waiting
for you to run, and telling them
that you were going to medal. HA, HA, HA, to them because I was
right. Congrats to you, and I'm looking forward to seeing you at
Penns in April. Make sure that your agent markets you correctly.
You can do teeth, skin, hair,
body products, and clothing. You
got the full package! Best of luck to you.
Your Bud,
Aunt Celest
Hi David,
I want to extend a huge congratulatory hug to you for a job well done. I enjoyed watching the race. You are the second African-American Olympian to medal from East High School to my knowledge. Jerome Biffle won in 1952(??? - could have been 1948) in Sweden in the long jump. You are an elite group. Wow! Take care and keep in touch.
Ms. Rhone.
