2008 Olympic Games Bronze Medalist!!

Man, it was a very tough race, not one of my better one's of the season, but Brooks has a saying that we have trained to put to use all year: If you have excellent execution with excellent effort, you are challenging the world record, if you have good execution with good effort, you still win and if you have average execution with average effort, you still come in top three.

I sort of missed a step on my third one out of the blocks, which instantly put me in hole, plus me and Doucore came in to contact at around hurdle seven. I was able to clean those mishaps up, run and execute well enough to come up for the bronze. I am so happy that I was able to come away from the Olympic Games with a medal! They only pass out three of them every four years, and for me to win one is amazing.

I was so happy to be able to drape the American flag over myself and run a victory lap, I instantly saw Bren and Harold and got to share the moment with them. My mom was so happy.
Standing on the medal stand and watching the flags being strung up the pole was when I think it hit me. I thought to myself, "That flag on the right represents all the hard work I have put in since November".

I was also overjoyed for David Payne, he had been through so much this year in terms of injuries and endured enough pain (no pun intended) for a few seasons. For him to win the silver medal is also a testament to his will and desire too.

You might be wondering while I'm still up, me and Payne had this red carpet thing to do tonight, which was cool, hanging out with fellow athletes. I really need to hop in the bed, we have a loooong day tomorrow!

I'm back in DC now and was trying to wait until tonight to watch your race "live" on TV (on tape delay) and I almost made it but then a Lenovo person text messaged me that you got bronze. Damn technology! (Wasn't there a Seinfeld episode about this once??)

Well done on your Bronze, and remember, you are still the only man to beat Robles this season.

By the way Colin Jackson enjoyed the race so much he said he almost felt like putting his spikes back on.

D.O.!!!!!!! Congrats, man. Me and Shep have been following your career since day 1, kinfolk. You came a long way since "hallway hurdles" in Drew. To get on the podium is outstanding. I'm actually about to watch y'all in a few minutes over here stateside. I was hoping you'd get a jump on Robles since your reaction times were consistently better, but it's still all good. You're still World Class, homie. A major inspiration. I had to step the Archy game up a notch just from watching Team USA. Proud of you bruh. Next year, you'll shake up the Worlds!!!

Also I know that you are a Miami Dolphin's fan. Hopefully you guys can win more games this year than you did last year! But that won't be hard :) SIKE!!! Just Kidding!!! I'm a Redskin fan and yeah we took Jason Taylor from you guys. Hopefully he won't try to dance on the field, but only in the endzone. :) Anyway, we shall see who comes out on top! Can't wait!! But enough about football. I just want to say keep up the good work and continue on your path to success!! I wish I could have known you before you left Howard and the DC area. You seem to be a really cool and humble guy. Hope to meet you one day!! Wishing you the best!! --Tiff

David, first of all congratulations on getting a medal!! You should be justifiably proud of your medal; I know people who would do anything for an Olympic medal an you have one. Also, all the guys here in the DC area who have watched your career are all proud and ecstatic of your accomplishments too. I, personally, just want to say that watching you grow from the gangly kid wearing those horrible horizontally striped bule and white sox like you wore in your freshman year to an Olympic medalist has been so heartening and I am so proud of you. Will email you later.

No need to post this on your blog page.

Wanted to ask a favor if time and opportunity permits.

When I was competing and traveling I picked up a hobby of collecting playing cards that have unique or distinctive face or back designs on them. If you see, or come across any quality playing cards (ie. Cards with Beijing Olympic symbols, destinctive Chinese characters or Kanji symbols...etc), please pick a set or more up for me. I will reimburse you when you come thru DC.

On another note, if you haven't done this already, I would suggest that you pick up a Olympic symbol flag as well as a clean USA Track & Field shirt and some different color sharpies. Take these item either to the Track, the mess hall, or at the Dorm that the athletes are coming through. Have as many athletes, coaches, and family members as possible sign one or both of these items.

I had two shirts that I passed around during the Olympic Trials in 1988 (one of which I gave to my company that supported me while I trained for the trials). I didn't think much of them then, put I am glad that I did it and kept one.

Enjoy the rest of your Olympic experience and keep the blog rocking.

Congratulations, David! I am not a regular follower of track and field events. I do enjoy watching the Olympics, however. I watched with interest as you advanced through your heats. I recognized your focus, which winners have to have. Your outlook about winning the bronze - one of three medals given every four years - was refreshing, on point. The stages of getting to the podium is such a metaphor of life. Recently I attended my niece's White Coat Ceremony, marking her entry to Mercer University's School of Pharmacy. I reflected on her life from childhood through graduation from UCF - she just moved from Orlando - to the Ceremony. It was something that she wanted, planned for and executed. I know how proud your Mom must have been when she saw you on that podium, seeing you fulfill your life's focus, the fruit of your hard work. Because of you, I shall follow your sport. I'm a new fan! Continued success to you. By the way, I was a Bison, too!

Congratulations on Everything.

Momentum
When you've gone a little ways, keep going a little ways more. When you've made some progress, use that progress to make some more.
Multiply the power of your actions with momentum. Once you get yourself going, follow through on the commitment and keep yourself going.

Often, the most difficult part of a task is the act of getting started. The fewer times you have to go through that process of starting yourself back up, the more you can get accomplished.

When you've enjoyed one success, that's the best time to start working on another success. Once you have momentum on your side, take full advantage of it.

One of the biggest benefits of achievement is that it opens up the door for greater achievement. Even a small success is a big deal, because of where it can lead.

Get yourself going and then keep yourself going. And from there, you can go anywhere.

Good Morning.

The goal ahead
If you find it difficult to deal with where you are, look ahead toward where you're going. Keep yourself focused on the goal at the end of the road, and you'll find the strength to move steadily down that road.
When you continue looking ahead, even the difficult steps will seem lighter. The burdens of the moment become much more bearable when you know there is a purpose behind them.

Your dreams can pull you toward them if you'll give those dreams a prominent place in your heart and your mind. Look ahead toward where you intend to go, and you'll find that each challenge makes you stronger.

When your eye is on the goal, the distractions won't be nearly so distracting. Your efforts will gain the immense power of focus when you're always clearly aware of where you're headed.

Your time, your energy, and your resources will get used no matter which direction you are looking. By choosing to look ahead, you get the highest return for the efforts you invest in your life.

Look ahead, toward the place you most want to be. The more you look, the faster you'll move forward.
