Thank You's Are In Order

I would like to take this time out to really thank my loving church family, Scott United Methodist Church, back at home in Denver for all of their continued support and prayers.

I have gotten so many emails and posts on my site from them. They were the original people to take up a collection for my mom to attend these Olympic Games and the outpouring of love was really overwhelming for her and myself.

Scott really built the foundation for which I stand on to this day.

I also want to personally thank her co-workers at UPS and The Gates Corporation for what they did privately for her as well. Anyone who knows Bren, knows she doesn't like to receive a whole lot of attention for things, but without her, where would I be?

Hi there David,
You and I went to Howard together and I just wanted to take a moment to congratulate you on your amazing accomplishments. Also, my aunt works at UPS and she was telling me the story about your mom a few weeks ago but at the time I didn't know it was your mother. The UPS employees were so happy to be able to have an opportunity to participate in that. Good luck as you continue on your journey to success! Your fellow Bison are very proud! :)

Good Morning David,

This is your day...., just in case I wasn't clear...this is "YOUR" day!

Over 6 months ago, the commentators found themselves scrambling to find your name on the heat sheet having not considering you as a contender at the indoor championships.

Much of the print media prior to this evenings final have focused most of its attention on other fine competitors in ( and not in ) the Olympic 110m Hurdle finals.

A lesson that I learned throughout life is that "Respect is never given, and must be earned".

I love your outlook " In order to be the best, you have to beat the best".

You have the heart of a Lion, the speed of a Cheetah, and the focus of an Eagle pursuing its prey.

Coach Johnson knows this, Allen Johnson sees it, your mother conceived it, and Coach Merritt along with the rest of your HU family believes it.

As you can imagine, we are all proud of your accomplishments..., but that is not what this day is about.

10 hurdles to the beginning of your march to destiny. Its time to let the World know what we already know and that which you have already realized. The race has to be run before the medals are bestowed.

We only get one crack at this gift called life, and there are not many that live it to the fullest. Its time for you to pick them up, and put them down in a big way this evening.

Godspeed to you and safe carriage to all the competitors. Do what you have done all year, and enjoy the moment. "This is YOUR Day"!

"for sure!"
Namesake
Enjoying the ride vicariously and loving your spirit!

A verse I often refer to in my walk in Christ is 1 Corinthians 9:10, "Do you not know in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize."--NIV version. Over here in the states, we are rooting for you and all of America. Plus, you're quite handsome, :) Godspeed to you and team USA! And a shout out to HBCUs!

Hey David, I just had to say wasup! I nearly screamed today when I looked up on the flat screen and saw your face there.
I was at Howard the same time you were, I know you were friends with Josef. I was already watching the Olympics, since being on hiatus from school, but now I'm really watching, thanks to you, I'll be tunning tomorrow at 9:40 a.m. You are really representing, not just Howard but excellence as a human being. It's always great to know when you have people behind you; to support you & your dreams. Your mom & family must be absolutely proud of you. To know that all those people went above and beyond so your mom could have to opportunity to see you race all the way to the other end of the world is just truly a blessing. You seem to have a great family, not many people has that. You are truly blessed and continue to be gracious for it. All the material things in the world could disappear in a second. God Bless you!

Anonymous said...

Great job! What matters is that you did your best under supremely unique circumstances. This is not a race like any other, so I am always happy to see people cross the finish line, even if not in the order that I had hoped. And your humility certainly makes it much easier to cheer along with you!

Tammy said...

Wow..."Excellence or nothing at all"...You are a wonderful product of what God and your mom have produced...I'll say this, I didn't know of you UNTIL the Olympics in Beijing...and from first glance, I knew and felt you were something special...as I read more about you, my observations are confirmed! Please keep doing what you do...you give me hope and inspiration NOT to settle for anything less (even though you went to THE OTHER HU..I'm a Hampton Alum '02 :-))!I'm literally speechless! Take care of yourself and your family. Maybe I'll hear from you sometime. Tamarah.Davis@gmail.com
