Zurich Action

As you know, I've been in Zurich for a couple of days. This is arguably the best meet on the professional circuit. They take very good care of you here and make sure you need for nothing.

One of the biggest things they had set up for us here is they gave us a big bag to put our laundry in and they will do it for you on the house! For those of you who don't understand, this is a very big thing. Its big for one, because no other meet does this for its athletes and two, the cost for the hotel to do your laundry is high as all get out! I always bring over some laundry detergent and thug it out, washing stuff in the bathtub and have it air drying all over the room. You fellow track runners know what I'm talking about. I'm happy that I can give my forearms a break this week, I'm not going to be doing any wringing out of laundry.

It has been very hard for me to get out of bed too. After coming off of those harder than brick beds in Beijing, I feel like I am one of those Heavenly Beds. I'm so comfortable, that I don't even feel like getting out of the bed to go eat, and that's saying a lot! Anyone that knows me, knows I don't let anything get in the way of a meal. Like I said before, you'll never hear of D.O. having missed meal cramps!

I went to the ATM today and they had me on the machine screen. It was a picture from the race last year. They have your boy and Anwar on the meet posters, they're everywhere throughout the city. I really don't like the picture, but you know how we over critique things we see of ourselves.

I've had a couple of good training sessions since I've been here. Tomorrow I am doing the Kids Clinic, I'm very much looking forward to doing it.

Okay, LOL @ "Thug it out w/ laundry detergent"...That is sooo ghetto and I could not imagine you doing that... I swear everytime I read your blog I find out a little more about your personality...That's nice because it offers more insight than what I saw on television...Anyway, 2 points for you for being resourceful and "thugging it out" lol, I love it! And its nice to hear that you all are being treated so well...That's hot that your picture is everywhere! Don't worry about not liking it...I'm sure you look great...In closing, continue to enjoy yourself, run fast, jump high and keep blogging because I love reading about your experiences.

You continue to impress me with your giving spirit. The fact that you are giving back to others is an admirable quality. Never change that about yourself. There are far too many people who forget the daily struggle of others.

David,

First - CONGRATULATIONS!!!! It is quite an accomplishment and you persevered such an arduous road to the olympics and came out on top! Reading about your adventures is just great. If you ever need a photographer to document and capture this momentous time I would be more than delighted. SKG Productions. So, what's next for the Olympian?

Hey Dave,

I would love to watch you getting down with some laundry by hand, that would be a vision. I havent followed track and field in a long time, but I must say I had no idea what I was missing. You're stunning to watch, OMG! Who knew. Congrats on the metal. As far as the pictures go, please you know you look HOT and you're just being modest. BTW God blessed you with much more than just talent and style...Im typing away aren't I... joke. Have a good week and certainly lots of laughs with the kids, its a jump start hapiness!

Hey the first poster brings up a good point, having a piece of clothing owned by Olympic Medalist David Oliver could be way too tempting!

No, but I was joking in what I said earlier. I could'nt let the opportunity past. I know that you have heard it before. In all sincerity, I think that what you're doing in Zurich is awesome. It is excellent to have young kids inspired by your success. We definitely need to have more positive role models. Keep up the good work!!!

D.O.(I like that)

What's wrong with thuggin it out, sometimes you just have to do what ya gotta do! Right? :) I am so glad they are taking care of you in Zurich, you are some kind of traveler...I wouldn't know what to do if I saw my pic on an ATM, that's interesting. Oh, and have fun with the kids I bet they will observe/admire everything you do just because you seem like a unique and nice person.

God Bless>>>Keep the blogs coming, I definitly will keep my eye on you :)

David,
Words can not say how much your giving back to inspire the kids will go. Who knows, perhaps one day, one of the kids will want to meet you at the Olympics awe-struck by your poise, and personality. You are such a compassionate young man. Your mom is truly blessed. I am proud of you, keep up the good work, & God Speed!!!

To Mr. David Oliver,

I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but you actually won the 110 hurdles race in Zurich.  I was watching a replay of the Zurich meet on ESPN Classic on August 29, 2008.  After seeing the race, I 'rewound' the race (tvo) to see how and when you lost the race.  I paused the race as you and Robles neared the finish line, as the race in slow showed motion, showed a closer race than the one seen in real time.  You won the race!

Upon review of the film, you will notice that your right foot crossed the finish line before any part of Robles' body crossed.  I'm not sure if you have already taken steps to protest the official results of the race, or if there is even a process by which you CAN appeal the results, but this may be something you want to look into.

Sincerely,
J.D. Unemployed
